Day 8: Hand-painted Christmas Candle

What you'll need

• Glass candle or bottle of bubbly
• Paint Pen - I am using the Sakura Pen Touch Extra Fine Gold Pen but you could also use Posca pens
• Acrylic Paints
• Paintbrushes

Step 1

Find a gift that you want to personalise, such as a glass candle or bottle of wine/champagne. Make sure the glass is clean and dry before getting started. 

Using your paint pen, letter your personal message to the glass. If you mess up, don't worry you will be able to scrub it off with soapy water so just go for it. 

Step 2

When your lettering is dry, it's time to add your hand-painted decorations. Choose your colour palette (I used a deep red, 2 shades of green, white and gold) and let's get painting.

Start by painting some petals to form flowers, use different sizes of petals and introduce some in another colour and style to add variety. They don't need to be perfect, nature isn't always perfect, just create some shapes that softly resemble foliage and trust the process.

You can also add some leaves with some basic tear shape strokes. 

Step 3

Add some dimension to your painting using some different shades, for example add in another green to your leaves or a white to your red flowers. 

Step 4

Add some final finishing touches - I added my signature stars for that extra sparkle with the gold pen and to tie in my lettering with the painting. Let it all dry, and it's ready to pop in a hand lettered gift bag to give to a loved one this Christmas.
